What happens if you don’t pay Muni fare?
It is not a criminal (prisonable) offense, but it will accrue fees, and may end up being $500 or more if you wait too long. Figure out a way to pay it, and move on. It will likely be attached to your name, drivers license and social security number in California.
Is it safe to ride Muni?
Make it a quiet ride – Onboard, customers are discouraged from talking, singing or other verbal activities that can cause droplets to be expelled as this has been known to contribute to virus spread. Keep your hands clean – Wash your hands before and after riding Muni and keep hand sanitizer handy.
Does Clipper card work on Muni?
Muni accepts the following on a Clipper card: Cash value: For single rides. Clipper customers get discounts of 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for youth, seniors and disabled riders on Muni buses and light rail. You need $1.25 on a Youth, Senior or RTC Clipper card to board if you are paying with cash value.

No surcharge is required. Customers paying with tokens at Muni Metro light rail stations must purchase a Limited Use Ticket from a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) located outside of the faregates. Tokens are accepted at the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM). Tap the ticket to the faregate reader for access.

Provides free access to Muni services for low and moderate income youth, ages 5 to 18, residing in San Francisco. Effective August 15, 2021 the Free Muni program will be extended to all youth under the age of 19.

MuniMobile is a Muni-only service. Discounts associated with transferring from other agencies and transferring from Daly City BART to Muni are only available through Clipper.

What happens if you forget to tag off Clipper card?
If you forget to tag off, that’s the fare you will pay. But if you tag off, Clipper will return the difference of $6 to your card. The other reason to tag off is to take advantage of eligible free or discounted rides when you transfer from one transit agency to another.
Do Clipper cards expire?
Cash on your card won’t expire; time-limited passes and tickets will expire. To load a Monthly Pass or cash, customers with Clipper cards (Adult, Youth, Senior, Disabled) can load their products immediately by going to: Participating transit agencies.
