The UK’s leading operator, First Bus, today announced a commitment to allow its customers to pay for travel through the use of contactless debit and credit cards. First Bus customers can already pay for bus travel using its successful smartcard and mobile payment (mTickets) mechanisms.
How do I pay by phone on the bus?
Look for the contactless symbol on your credit or debit card to see if your card is contactless enabled. Then, board a bus with the contactless symbol and instead of paying with cash, simply tap your card or contactless-enabled device onto the reader and wait for the beep.
Is the first bus app free?

How do I refund my first bus app?
Unfortunately, our drivers are only able to cancel contactless transactions at the point of purchase. If you require a refund after the point of purchase, you will need to contact our customer services teams on: Phone: 0345 646 0707 between 9am-5pm Monday to Fridays.
What is M-ticket?
M-ticket is a digital ticket securely stored in your BookMyShow account and accessible on your Smartphone. When your event is M-ticket only, your ticket(s) will not be available in printed form or emailed to you.
How do you use the bus checker app?
The app also announces the stops that are on the opposite side of the road to where you are. Open one of these bus stops to see the times a bus will stop there. Simply tap (or double tap if you use VoiceOver ). The app will now start reading the bus times and state how many minutes it will be for the bus to arrive.
How do you activate an M-ticket?
How do mTickets work? Once a ticket is purchased and downloaded, it will appear in the ‘wallet’ of the mTicket section of the app. Tickets in this section are listed from the oldest at the top to the newest at the bottom. When you want to use a ticket, select the one you want and then select ‘Activate Now ‘.
Can you pay with cash on buses?
Will you still let customers pay by cash on your buses? Customers will still be able to pay with cash for their fare, but they will need to have the exact fare ready for their journey as our drivers won’t be able to issue change.
Is cash accepted on buses?
London buses are card only, so no need for cash. Choose a Visitor Oyster card, an Oyster card, a Travelcard or a contactless payment card to pay your fare. You can even take multiple buses within one hour at no extra charge thanks to the Hopper fare system.
Can I travel without a go card?
If you don’t have an Opal card or contactless payment card or device, you will need to buy an Opal single trip ticket to travel. Unless you require child fares, it’s cheaper to pay for your travel using a contactless credit or debit card or linked device or an Opal card than using an Opal single ticket.
